Season first
Season determines road condition, temperature and how much daylight you have to drive in. Confirm conditions for your intended route close to departure rather than relying on a general rule.
Set honest daily distances
Plan around driving hours, not kilometres. Gravel, border posts, fuel stops and photographs all consume time that a mapping app does not show you.
Self-drive or guided?
Guided convoys remove the admin: bookings, routing, border paperwork and support are handled. Self-drive gives you freedom but puts every logistical decision back on you.
